I'm a music lover; you might not know that from reading this blog. I write about music rarely and usually leave the music reviews and thoughts to Anthony.

A few months ago I just became completely fed up and frustrated with music. I was sick of hearing every band I use to love come out with a crappy CD, sick of hearing a million generic songs that sounded the same, just sick of everything. I pretty much just gave up on music and instead decided to just crank the radio and enjoy the current pop hit of the moment.

And Anthony hated me for it. I had become everything we basically hated in High School, the guy rolling down the street blasting "Sunglasses at....err I mean See You Again" and (if you ever listen to our radio show you'd know this) having Flo-Rida as a ring tone. When he asked why I had sold my soul to Z-100 I really didn't have a good reason, to me it was the lesser of two evils. I would much rather just enjoy a stupid pop song than hear Taking Back Sunday crank out another generic and meaningless Emo-Anthem.

About a week ago I shut the radio off. I couldn't take it anymore. There's a difference between enjoying a meaningless pop song and hearing a song so often it makes your eyes want to bleed. I couldn't drive from work to my house (a total of 15-20 minutes) without hearing Flo-Rida or Miley Ray Cyrus. It was disgusting. I just couldn't take it anymore. (Side note: for anyone that lives in NY, K-Rock is the default Rock station if you enjoy good music and not pop. However I think it's become the most overrated radio station. The play the same songs a million times, White Stripes, Metallica, etc. It's just as generic as Z-100)

I popped a CD into my car by a band called Split Soul. Let me save you the trouble, you've never heard of them. Split Soul was a band from my high school that came out with a four song EP and than was never heard from again...but you know what it was fantastic, and it still holds up. Listening to this four song CD from a high school band that’s almost 10 years old made me realize something....

Music today is awful. Seriously has anything come out in the past five plus years that was really epic? Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness came out 13 years ago! I guarantee you if "Tonight Tonight" was a released as a single tomorrow it would immediately be the number one song in the country.

I Doubt anyone is going to remember Flo-Rida and Miley Ray Cyrus in a few months let alone over a decade.

I went down to my basement and found my giant book of CD's and it's reinvigorated my love of music. At one point great music existed in massive amounts and songs like “Tonight Tonight” “Mr. Jones” Semi-Charmed Kinda Life were pop hits. I hope we can find that place again.

My favorite Rap group, Atmosphere, raps about druge addiction in "Shoulda Known," the first single from "When Life Gives You Lemons, You paint That Shit Gold." The album comes out on April 22nd.

Wow....A Good Club Anthem!

My friends always criticize me for not liking rap.

Well, that's not true. I do like rap. I just like my rap to be relatively smart. I don't need 50 cent to tell me about how times he got shot, or to see how many times he could use the word fuck in one song. It comes off sounding dumb. I don't need Little Jon screaming "skeet skeet" in my ear for three minutes either.

Who are some rappers I like? Try Atmosphere, Brother Ali, or Lupe Fiasco. Jason jokes that I only like rappers that are white, or sound white. Also, not true.

Along comes Metafore, and besides just having an awesome name., he brings us "Nah Mean" a club song where he doesn't talk about shooting people, degrade women, or sound stupid. Check it out:
