For Diamondback Pitcher Doug Davis who makes his triumphant return to the mound tonight after having surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his thyroid.

In case you haven't noticed, I've blogged quite a bit during class today. Copyright law is boring.
Anyway, I just looked at Jason's new Man crush, Chris B. Young's stats, and I have to say that I'm horrified.
Jason developed his love for Young after reading Baseball prospectus, which proves a couple of things. First off, Comack never does his own player evaluation. Second, Jason will believe whatever he reads. He's like Ron Burgandy. Whatever is on paper, he's on board. Just kidding. Kind of. Not really.
I do agree with him however, to a point. I know that his power numbers are great. They are fantastic and the kid is a good player. However, if he hits .228 for the season, I just don't see how he could keep it up. I know he's walking more, which has led to a decently respectable .343 OBP. However, I can't help but feel like the moment he stops hitting, he's going to stop drawing walks. Everyone slumps, and I feel like his slumps are going to be BAD.
As of right now, Young is creating 7.2 runs per game. However, once he starts slowing down on the home runs, which he will, I would bet a lot that those numbers shift downward towards his career average of 5.0.
Remember, good player. Not greatest player ever as Jason would have you believe.

Did That Really Just Happen?
From the Rick DiPietro school of sports management comes the Arizona Diamondbacks signing outfielder Chris B. Young to a six year extension, according to Rotoworld and several other sources.
Listen, I think Young is going to be a fantastic player. His on base percentage may never be great, but he certainly has the potential to be a 30-30 guy and play a great centerfield.
However, Has he proved anything? I mean, literally anything?
Here are last year's stats: .295 OBP, 32 HR, 68 RBI, 27 SB.
For those of you forget, my favorite stat is RC/27, or in layman's terms, Runs created per every 27 outs a hitter makes. It basically combines everything positive that a hitter can do, and subtracts everything negative. Here's the Formula:
Then, divide it all by 27. Not as complicated as it looks, trust me.
Anyway, last season young created only 4.9 runs per 27 outs. Not great. By comparison, the Hebrew Hammer Ryan Braun created 8.4 runs per 27 outs. Where's his huge extension?
The point is that Young is a good player, but I think the D-Backs jumped the gun just a little bit.
